Grant Application Information

Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation helps provide a support system for Arkansas nonprofits working to create positive change for underserved populations.

Grants are awarded to programs that benefit African American or other underserved populations in Arkansas. Nonprofits with programs focusing on education, health and wellness, youth development, strengthening families, and economic development are eligible to apply. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $2,500.

2023 Grantees:

  1. Arkansas Association of Realtist – Building Wealth Together – to host a community financial literacy and homeownership workshop in West Memphis and Forrest City.
  2. Arkansas Broadcasting Foundation – Black Consumer News – will expand distribution to Mississippi Delta counties; a one-hour weekly show that focuses on informing listeners about financial information and resources that best serve families.
  3. Brayboy Safety Against Domestic Violence Crisis Center Purple Butterfly Strength – a program to create awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault violence.
  4. Carters Crew – UN-Repeating the Cycle Family Night – to host monthly family nights as part of a program designed to deter gang enrollment among juveniles ages 12-17.
  5. Creative Institute of Central Arkansas – Emerging Talent Program: Housing – provides housing stipend to students in the Emerging Talent Program.
  6. Goodwill Arkansas Education Initiative – Excel Center – the first and only tuition-free adult high school in the state. The funds will outfit the existing Science classroom for hands-on training.
  7. Ivy Center for Education – Educational Inspiration – will explore after high school alternatives by visiting cultural sites to expose students to the world of technology, artificial intelligence, and health careers.
  8. Junior Achievement of Arkansas – Virtual Pitch Competition –African American middle and high school students will “virtually pitch” creative entrepreneurial new ideas on products, services or solutions.
  9. Life Skills for Youth – Summer STEAM Academy – to purchase educational resources and supplies, including equipment for experiments and projects for summer STEAM academy.  
  10. Neighbor to Neighbor – Food Insecurity – a full-time food pantry and soup kitchen; supplies healthy foods for pantry bags and daily lunches.
  11. OneCommunity – Feed Your Brain, Alimenta Tu Cerebro – offers a bilingual family literacy program designed to increase reading, reduce summer learning loss and provide bilingual and culturally responsive books to families.
  12. Project Transformation – Reading Program – funds will provide an eight-week literacy development summer camp to engage children in grades 1-5.  
  13. Recognize Education and Life Lessons Scholars Program – STEAM Program – serves 7-12 grade students by providing a STEAM Curriculum and Career Development Training Program. 
  14. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas – Supporting Families with a Hospitalized Child – provides free lodging, meals and snacks, play spaces, laundry facilities, personal hygiene items, and the 24/7 support of compassionate staff, volunteers, and other families.
  15. Stuttgart Gloves not Guns – Boxing Club – provides discipline and mentorship; assists with costs associated with competition.
  16. Teen Promise – Making Healthy Choices Workshop – teaching females to develop a growth mindset and job readiness skills during a 12-week program.
  17. The CALL Clark County – Support for foster and adoptive families – will host awareness and recruitment events; offer training and support for foster/adoptive families.
  18. UCA Center for Community and Economic Development – Arkansas Racial Equity Summit 2023 – fourth annual Summit will educate leaders about the history of racial injustice in Arkansas and the current inequities we see today.
  19. Ujima Maternity Network – Community Based Doula Initiative – provides training and certification to African American women to become doulas.

Who’s Eligible

501(c) (3) nonprofit organizations, hospitals, public schools and government agencies are eligible to apply. Other organizations that do not qualify for tax-exempt status are not eligible.

Where We’re Currently Making Grants

All geographic areas of the state are eligible to apply.

What We’re Looking For

When you apply, we’ll ask you to share some basic information about your organization, including:

  • Background. What community need does this program address and why was the program created?  What specific activities/initiatives are involved?
  • Capacity of grantee. What makes your organization uniquely qualified to address this community need and successfully implement the proposed program?
  • Potential outcomes. How will you measure the success of your program? Describe the sustainable impact your program or service will provide.
  • Budget. What are the expenses related to your request? Which pieces will be paid for using a Black Hall of Fame grant, and which pieces will be covered by funding from other sources?

The following factors are considered, although not exclusively, in reviewing proposals:

  • Potential benefit to the community
  • Capacity of the organization to achieve the results outlined
  • Evidence of a plan for evaluating the project
  • Potential for sustainability beyond grant period
  • Evidence of cooperation or collaboration with other organizations
  • Evidence of local financial support and the likelihood of future support for the project or program

What We’re NOT Looking For

Each request is considered on its own merit. However, the following types of requests generally are not considered:

  • Support for annual fundraising campaigns
  • Support for capital campaigns
  • Projects that address sectarian religious purposes
  • Projects that are political in nature or have a political bias
  • Multi-year proposals
  • Scholarships or fellowships for formal education at any level
