U.S. Army National Guard Veteran April McDaniel Awarded Seventh Annual $2,500 AT&T War Memorial Scholarship

2019 Scholarship Application Info Available Online

Little Rock, Ark. (Oct 15, 2018) – April Joan McDaniel of Conway recently received the seventh annual AT&T War Memorial Scholarship administered by Arkansas Community Foundation.

McDaniel joined the Arkansas Army National Guard after graduating high school in 2001 and served for 17 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5.  As a civilian and veteran, she currently works for the Arkansas Army National Guard as a Federal Technician.  She currently attends Harding University in Searcy and is pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

“The AT&T War Memorial Scholarship is helping me advance my education,” said McDaniel. “I appreciate AT&T’s commitment to helping veterans pursue their academic goals.”

McDaniel began her military career in the 224th Maintenance Company in Marshall and as part of the Bravo Company 2-153 Infantry Combat Team, she deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in 2008 where she worked as a SAMS-E clerk in the motor pool.  After returning home to Arkansas, she furthered her military training as a member of Bravo Company BSB in Heber Springs, Fox Company in Cabot and finally with the Installation Support Unit on Camp Robinson.

AT&T established the scholarship at Arkansas Community Foundation in 2011 to support Arkansas veterans seeking higher education. The $2,500 scholarship honors Arkansas’ 25 Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and is awarded annually to a veteran of any branch of the U.S. Armed Services who will attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university in Arkansas.

"AT&T established the War Memorial Scholarship to recognize those who have nobly served their country,” said Ronald Dedman, President of AT&T Arkansas. "We value the skills and diversity that veterans bring to the workforce. We are honored to be able to assist Arkansas veterans as they pursue careers outside of the military.”
