Twin Lakes Future Fund

What is a Future Fund?

The Twin Lakes Future Fund is a way for young professionals to give back to their communities.  It doesn’t take great wealth, and it doesn’t require a huge time commitment.  It’s an opportunity for young people to pool their charitable dollars and collectively identify and support charities and causes they care about.

The Twin Lakes Future Fund was started in 2012 by Twin Lakes Community Foundation.  The concept of the Future Fund is to educate a younger audience about philanthropy (giving) and engage young leaders. The foundation provides the means and the vehicle to help obtain its mission.   An anonymous donor has graciously provided a $5,000 challenge grant to help establish the Future Fund Endowment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do membership dues go?

Your dues are pooled together with other members and are used to build our capacity for grantmaking now and in the future.

Here's how it works:

Once I join, what are my obligations as a member?

Members can participate as much or as little as they want. At the minimal level, each member will be asked to vote for the charities of their choice. Others may look to be more involved by participating in a committee that may focus on membership, planning events or grantmaking.

Is there an age limit on membership?

Yes. The group targets young adults ages 20-49. In order to be a voting member of the group, you must be within this age range. However, if you're outside our age range but still want to encourage this new generation of Twin Lakes philanthropists, you can become a Supporting Member.

Who manages the money raised?

Professional managers hired by Arkansas Community Foundation manage the money.

How is Twin Lakes Future Fund governed?

Who decides which charitable organizations to fund?

The members decide. Nonprofit organizations in the Twin Lakes area are eligible to apply for the Future Fund Grants.
The Grants Committee, which is a volunteer committee, will streamline the grant proposals that are submitted and create a slate of recommendations for the full Future Fund membership to vote on.

When does the membership vote on charitable grants?

Members will get an opportunity to vote at the annual Twin Lakes Future Fund Spring Event. This is a time to hear testimonials from grantees of the last giving cycle while voting on the charities for the next giving cycle.

Who sponsors TLFF?

The Twin Lakes Future Fund is an initiative of Twin Lakes Community Foundation and receives support from the foundation.  Twin Lakes Community Foundation has contributed $2300 for the first year to help launch the initiative. In the future, the fund may look to individual and corporate sponsors to underwrite the Future Fund’s operations and events.
