As of May 31, 2007, EFCC Has Thirty Funds Totaling $1,070,189 The Cypress Fund of EFCC was established by an anonymous donor who wishes to encourage philanthropy by his family. This is a Donor Advised Fund and will be used to further religious or environmental causes. The donor and his grown children will jointly select an organization working in one of the chosen areas each year to receive the proceeds of the fund. In this way, the donor hopes to instill a spirit of giving for the betterment of the world around us.
The John Barry and Darryl Lynn Carwell Scholarship Fund was established by Mrs. Harriet Carwell to honor the memory of her grandsons. Mrs. Carwell believes in the power of education to make a better Arkansas and chose this means to contribute to the future of Arkansas. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Cross County High School each year.
The Single Parent Scholarship Fund was established by the Cross County Single Parent Scholarship Fund to enable single parents to pursue an education. Only through education can many parents hope to provide a better standard of life for themselves and their children. The CCSPSF has established this fund to help single parents break the cycle of poverty which many single parents find themselves caught in.
The Doyl Brown Operating Endowment was established by the First National Bank of Wynne to honor former bank president, Doyl E. Brown and to provide operating funds for EFCC. The FNB of Wynne has been steady and faithful supporters of EFCC from the beginning. The Bank has made a large contribution to this fund every year.
The Winnie Bob Smith Wynne Friends of Animals was established by the Smith family, the Cross County Veterinary Clinic, and the Wynne Friends of Animals. The fund honors Winnie Bob Smith who loved animals and enjoyed breeding and showing dogs throughout the South. The fund provides money for the work of the local Friends of Animals.
The Cross County Housing Endowment was created in 2004 with funds from the Cross County Housing Utilities Committee. Grants from this fund will be used to improve housing for Cross County residents
The Cross County Veterans Memorial Endowment was established by the Cross County Veterans Committee in 2004. Its purpose is to contribute to the upkeep of the Veterans Memorial located on the Cross County Courthouse grounds.
The Wynne Lions Club Endowment was established in 2005 by the Wynne Lions Club to fund projects of the club including scholarships.
The Logan T. Boeckmann Educational Endowment was established in 2006 by Jeannie and Ray Boeckmann to honor the memory of their son Logan T. Boeckmann after his sudden death. The endowment will provide scholarships for Wynne High graduates.
The Cross County Arts Council Endowment was established in 2006 by the Arts Council to fund the promotion of arts throughout Cross County.
The Cora Murphree, Jeanette Jackson and Anita Short Children’s Coat Fund grew from a small fund begun by Ms. Murphree and added to by Mrs. Short and Mrs. Jackson. These ladies wanted to help children in the Cross County School who lacked adequate warm clothing. Other contributors included the Cherry Valley Lions Club and members of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church. A member of the Cross County School faculty assists in identifying children in need of help and in buying Christmas gifts for them. This fund is truly a community effort and shows how one person’s good deed inspires another and another.
The O’Dell McCallum Endowment was established in 2006 by the First National Bank of Wynne to honor Mr. O’Dell McCallum long time Wynne educator. It will provide funding for the McCallum Center in Wynne.
The Florence Halstead Operating Endowment was established in 2004 by Mrs. Halstead to provide funds for the operation of the Endowment Foundation of Cross County. Mrs. Halstead has been one of EFCC’s most loyal supporters since the affiliate was formed in 2003.
The Martha Matthews Scholarship Endowment was established by friends of Martha Matthews, beloved Wynne High School English teacher, after her untimely death in 1985. The fund provides scholarships for Wynne High School graduates. Ms. Matthews taught in the Wynne Schools for twenty years and inspired students and colleagues to high levels of achievement. When the EFCC came into being this fund was moved under its umbrella.
The Martha Williams Murray Endowment was established in 2004 by the Murray family to honor the memory of this beloved wife and mother. Mrs. Murray was an enthusiastic charter EFCC board member and provided invaluable help in getting this affiliate up and running. Her life was devoted to serving family, church and community with grace and dignity. This fund benefits religious, environmental and artistic activities.
The Mildred and Glenn Key Endowment was established by the Key family to honor the memory of Glenn Key and to celebrate the eightieth birthday of Mildred Key. The fund will provide scholarships for Wynne high school graduates.
The Tom and Mary Fallis Fund was established by Jackie A. Fallis of Albuquerque, New Mexico in honor or her brother and sister-in-law. The fund will provide grants for the charitable interests of Tom and Mary Fallis, lifelong residents and concerned citizens of Cross County.
The Hays Food Town YAC Endowment was established in 2005 by the Mike King family, owners of Hays Food Town stores in Wynne, Jonesboro, Walnut Ridge, West Helena, and Paragould. The endowment provides funding for the Youth Advisory Council grants. This fund is just one of the many ways the King family demonstrates their concern for building a better Cross County.
The Endowment Foundation of Cross County Youth Endowment was established in 2005 with funding provided through asset development efforts of the teen YAC members and $10,000 in matching funding provided by the W. K Kellogg Foundation. This endowment received a healthy boost from a $5,000 grant from the Southland Park Community Foundation in the fall of 2007. Funding from this endowment and the Hayes Food Town YAC Endowment will enable the YAC teens to make grants totaling at least $2,000 annually in Cross County forever.
The Wynne Rotary Club Endowment was established in 2005 by the Wynne Rotary Club to fund charitable works of the club.
The Friends of the Cross County Library was established in 2006 by the Friends group in 2006 to provide funding for programming at the Cross County Library.
The Endowment Foundation of Cross County Grantmakers Endowment was established in 2004 with matching money provided by the Arkansas Community Foundation /Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation PARTNERS program. EFCC has met the maximum available every year. This endowment provides funding for grants to Cross County non-profit groups each spring and fall.
The Endowment Foundation of Cross County Operating Endowment was established in 2004 with matching money provided by the Arkansas Community Foundation/ Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation PARTNERS program. While EFCC has qualified for all available match money to date, the EFCC board realizes that for permanent effective operation, this fund’s growth needs to continue after PARTNERS ends in 2009. Cross County citizens who see the value in the work EFCC does on behalf of non-profit and educational groups are encouraged to participate in its ongoing success by contributing to this fund.
From these funds, a total of $54,375 in grant money has been divided among forty-two non-profit and governmental groups for the benefit of communities all across the Cross County:
