EFCC Aids 8 Area Non-Profits in Fall 2007 Grant Cycle
Christmas came a little early for eight non-profit organizations in Cross County who received $4,730 in grants from the Endowment Foundation of Cross County. The grants were part of the EFCC's fall grant cycle, and Executive Director Georgia Ross said it is the foundation's way of improving Cross County.

"Our small grants make a real difference in Cross County, and we are working to help them grow."

--Georgia Ross, Executive Director of the Endowment Foundation of Cross County

EFCC is able to grant funds in the spring and fall because of matching money coming from the PARTNERS program of the Arkansas Community Foundation and the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation. EFCC also has thirty funds that provide grants for other local work, including scholarships

Grant recipients for the fall 2007 grant cycle are:

Vanndale Fun Park
The community of Vanndale, the only un-incorporated town in Cross County, received a grant from Arkansas State parks in 2005 to begin construction on a fun park-playground.  Local citizens worked and fulfilled the grant requirements and have continued to add to the park. EFCC has given grants to help pay for cooking grills, a spring-form toy, and the just completed pavilion. In this grant cycle, the park received funding for see-saws and garbage containers.

Boys and Girls Club of Cross County
The Boys & Girls Club aims at providing a safe place for youth to learn, grow, and have fun.  The Boys and Girls Club continues to be the leading youth development organization in this area.  Youth have an opportunity to build self-esteem and self-awareness through participation in educational, social, recreational, and cultural activities. The EFCC grant will cover reading material.

Cross County Holiday Decorating and Lighting Project
Cross County Holiday Decorating and Lighting Project  requested a grant to be used to purchase replacement bulbs for the holiday light decorations and help with cost of energizing 20 light poles. The holiday light decorations are placed in Wynne, Cherry Valley, and Hickory Ridge during the holiday season.

Cross County Arts Council
Delta Wolf Trap artist, Kenneth Jackson will do a 7 week residency at the ASU/ABC pre-school program in Wynne.  This will include 11 thirty-minute sessions with all classes, as well as teacher/artist planning meetings and parent/family workshops.  There will be a performance at the end of the residency that will be open to the public.

Cross County Single Parent Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Cross County Singe Parent Scholarship Fund is to develop resources that will provide scholarships to single parents seeking to achieve self-sufficiency through education.  Cross Count Single Parent Scholarship Fund received a grant from EFCC to be distributed to needy single parents.

Parkin Archeological Support Team
The Parkin Archeological State Park and the Parkin Archeological Support Team have worked with the master Gardeners of Cross County and the Parkin Garden Club to establish a Butterfly garden at the state park.  The current year was the first year and was very successful.  The beautiful garden attracted butterflies and was visited by many youth and adults who expressed enjoyment and praise for the garden.

Strong Tower Ministries
Strong Tower Ministries is committed to seeing the Cross County area grow and be a viable society in the Delta Region.  The community service project will work to include refurbishing and repairs to the homes of senior citizens as well as provide upkeep of designated local cemeteries.

Wynne Community Enlightenment Childcare
The Wynne Community Enlightenment Childcare Center requested funds to help cover the cost of repairing the roof and paint the exterior of the childcare center.
