Temple Beth El Endowment

The congregation of Temple Beth El of Helena, Arkansas gave the building to the Arkansas Heritage to be used as an auditorium space for the citizens of Phillips County.  The Delta Cultural Center will oversee and maintain the building through an endowment in the amount of $50,000 that was given to ARCF through its affiliate - the Phillips County Community Foundation.

This is a very meaningful gift as the Jewish Community in Helena has always been one of its most outstanding groups of citizens.  They contributed to the growth and economy of the area and also to its cultural awareness and opportunities afforded to the people and especially to the youth.

The building itself is beautiful and is indeed a pristine example of strength and purpose as well as beauty.  At one time it was the oldest synagogue in the state. Many Jewish families with their children and grandchildren gathered in Helena this summer for the deconsecration of the temple and indeed to visit and reminisce.  It was a very impressive meeting.
