YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL (YAC) OFFERING GRANTS
The YAC committee is soliciting applications to fund projects benefitting youth in the Pine Bluff Area. Grants are likely to be about $500 each, and a limited number are available.

We fund programs and projects that will positively affect the lives of children and young people. We are interested in projects through which a modest amount of grant money can create a significant result.  For example, a grant that can serve as leverage to attract other funds or a grant that completes the dollars needed for the project would be of particular interest.  We look for proposals from organizations with a well-planned approach to a public problem or issue related to children and youth, with a base of other support, and with a committed leadership that has the skills and training necessary to successfully carry out the work.  We encourage organizations to work together to fulfill objectives held in common, rather than compete for scarce grant dollars.

YAC considers the following factors, not exclusively, in reviewing applications:

  • Potential benefit to youth to be served and to the community as a whole
  • Capacity of the organization to achieve the desired results
  • Adequacy of the objectives, methods, budget, time frame, and personnel to be successful
  • Evidence of appropriate cooperation or coordination with other organizations working in the same field
  • Likelihood of future support
  • Quality of the plan for evaluating the results and
  • Usefulness of the project as a model for other organizations.

Please review and download the application by clicking on the link below. Read and follow the instructions. Deadline for receipt is 5PM April 16th, 2010.

A UNIQUE SCHOLARSHIP: The Robert P. Atkinson Hospital Leadership and Scholarship fund was established late in 2009 by Jefferson Regional Medical Center in honor of their former CEO, Bob Atkinson, who recently retired. The fund is managed by the Arkansas Community Office and will be administered as a joint effort by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation.
The purpose of the fund is rather unique: to provide scholarships to students pursuing a masters level or above degree with an emphasis in administration within the healthcare field.  Eligible students may be from Southeast Arkansas and/or interested in returning to Southeast Arkansas upon completion of their education.
Since UAMS has the only accredited degree program in Arkansas for Health Services Administration, we will be working closely with that institution to identify and encourage candidates who meet the qualifications to apply. However, we will consider applications from students who are enrolled (or plan to enroll in) a suitable degree program outside the State, as long as the candidate intends to seek employment in Southeast Arkansas after graduation.
