Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation An Affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation
Individuals, families, and corporations can establish charitable funds with us to support the causes they care about. Below are some of the many donor stories that we would like to share with you, in addition to a complete list of the growing number of funds that have been established.
The Sarah J. Creasy Endowment Sarah J. Creasy left, in her will, a substantial gift to the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation. Her estate established the Sarah J. Creasy Endowment with a gift of over $660,000, to benefit the Arts, education, and Youth Services in Pine Bluff. What a wonderful gift, and a wonderful surprise. We didn’t know it was coming, and apparently resulted from a conversation Mrs. Creasy had with her financial advisor, who was aware of the ways that the Community Foundation can help individuals meet their charitable gifting goals.
Hodge Family Endowment for Pine Bluff Citizens' Boys and Girls Club Mrs. Bobbie Hodge established this fund to provide a perpetual operating gift to the Boys and Girls Club, an organization she believes in and wants to see succeed.
The William A. and Genevieve H. Strong Scholarship Endowment. The Strong family believes in education, and in the value of our local institutions. They have established this fund to assist a young man or woman who will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and who will major in mathematics. Their intent is to award this scholarship to one person, and “follow” that student through his or her 4-years of study, as long as prescribed academic standards are maintained.
THE PINE BLUFF H.S. CLASS OF 1962 SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT. Members of Pine Bluff High’s class of 1962 are an illustrious and caring group of people. They have an active alumnae group which wanted to establish a scholarship to help Pine Bluff High School students attend accredited schools of higher learning. They found that the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation had the solution: a scholarship fund which allows class members to make periodic, tax-deductible contributions that will build over three years to reach $10,000. Once endowed, the PBACF Board will review applications and recommend scholarship recipients.
THE COPELAND CENTRAL MOLONEY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT. Ed Copeland is chairman of the local manufacturing firm, Central Moloney. He and his wife, Charleen, wished to do something for the employees of that company. Accordingly, they established this endowment to provide scholarships to family members of Central Moloney employees. The Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation worked with Ed and Charleen to help them create this legacy.
The Arkansas Mill Supply Centennial Endowment. Arkansas Mill Supply, a locally owned and operated business, recently celebrated their 100 year anniversary. Along with the usual celebratory activities that one might expect, the principals of the company decided that they wanted to do something for the community that has nourished the company’s growth over the years. Accordingly they established the Arkansas Mill Supply Centennial Endowment with the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation. This fund will generate income to support causes and agencies which improve the quality of life in Jefferson County. The fund is an excellent example of a donor-advised endowment, which allows the donor and successors to recommend where the grants from the fund income will be made.
The Edmund and June Freeman Endowment Mr. and Mrs. Freeman were longtime residents of Pine Bluff, having owned and operated the Pine Bluff Commercial for many years. Now living in Little Rock, they still have friends and ties to the city where they raised their children and built an important business. They considered contributing as a founding member of the “I Still Love Pine Bluff” Endowment, but upon reflection decided to do more, by starting their own, named fund to benefit charitable causes in Pine Bluff.
