Youth Learn Benefits of Philanthropy
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) affords students the opportunity to learn about philanthropy and it's benefits. Through a YAC program students make grants that address issues effecting youth. This group of students surveyed more that 100 students to find their priority concerns. The survey revealed that teen pregnancy and substance abuse were the prime areas of concern. The group then solicited grant proposals from organizations that worked with youth in these areas. Grant applications were evaluated and the group voted to make an $835.00 grant to 1st Choice Pregnancy Resource Center to purchase educational materials for one of their teen pregnancy prevention programs. Grant funds are available from the YAC Endowment established by the Texarkana Area Community Foundation.
