Your clients have several options to consider as they explore giving through our community foundation.  These include determining:
  • the type of fund that best meets their charitable giving goal

  • the type of gifts to make as they initiate and grow the fund, and

  • how they will involve themselves, and other family members, in the giving process.

Detailed information about all donor options, from the donor's perspective, are available in our section titled Becoming a Donor.

If your client is considering the creation of a private foundation, we strongly encourage you to have them explore the advantages a community foundation can offer.  More details on this issue can be found in Private Foundation Options.

In addition, the ARCF Investment Policy allows the use of Independent Investment Managers in certain instances.  Please contact Heather Eason, heason@arcf.org, at the Community Foundation for more information.  In order to provide flexibility, the Arkansas Community Foundation has formed alliances with Merrill Lynch and with The American Funds Group. These alliances offer options to donors and allow individual brokers to maintain an on-going interest in the investment of assets donated by their clients.

Charitable Funds

Great giving options:  ARCF can help you choose the one that’s right for your client.

The Community foundation offers a variety of fund options to help you help your clients achieve their unique charitable giving goals.

Donor Advised Funds
A Donor Advised Fund allows your client to make a gift to ARCF, then remain actively involved in choosing uses for the gift.  You and your client can work with ARCF to target the issues your client cares about most.  Grant awards are issued in the name of the fund or anonymously if your client prefers.  It’s a simple, powerful and highly personal approach to giving.

Unrestricted Funds
When your client establishes an Unrestricted Fund, the gift can address a broad range of local needs – including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time the gift is made.  ARCF evaluates all aspects of community well-being – arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, health and human services, neighborhood revitalization and more.  The flexibility of your client’s unrestricted gift enables ARCF to respond to the most pressing needs, today and tomorrow.

Field of Interest Funds
Clients who establish Field of Interest Funds can target their gifts to address needs in an area of interest they choose, from the arts to environment to at-risk youth.  The flexibility of your client’s gift enables ARCF to respond to our state’s most pressing needs in the chosen field both today and in the future.  The gift stays flexible enough to meet community needs in your client's interest area - even as they change over time.

Designated Funds
Establishing a Designated Fund allows your client to support the good work of a specific nonprofit organization - a senior center, museum, or virtually any nonprofit charitable organization.  Making the gift through ARCF provides the organization not only with funding, but planned giving and investment management services and the power of endowment.

Nonprofit organizations can also establish a Designated Fund or agency endowments at ARCF.  This simple and efficient method of building an endowment can help create sustainability for the organization.

Corporate Funds
If your client is a corporation, establishing a Corporate Advised Fund with ARCF allows the company to participate in determining the use of funds without spending time and effort to manage the grantmaking.  ARCF serves as a vehicle for responding to community needs.

Scholarships
Your client’s scholarship gift can help students achieve their lifelong dreams.  The scholarship is an investment in the future of the community, as well.  ARCF provides the expertise to help your client meet personal goals and award scholarships to deserving students.

Supporting Organizations
A Supporting Organization is an excellent alternative to a private foundation, with only a fraction of the administrative responsibilities.  Your client selects some of the board members, maintains personal involvement, and supports the causes he or she cares about most while enjoying the favorable tax treatment of a public charity.
