Strong Communities Need Strong Local News

That’s the premise behind the Write for Arkansas initiative from Arkansas Community Foundation.

To increase the volume and depth of local news coverage across the state, we’re partnering with five community newspapers.

• Areawide Media of Salem
• The Courier of Russellville 
• Texarkana Gazette
• Stuttgart Daily Leader

Here’s how it works. Arkansas Community Foundation made two-year grants to our partner newspapers. Each newspaper hired an additional reporter to cover local issues. The reporters’ stories appear in their home newspapers and are compiled at WriteforArkansas.org.

We Believe a Single Reporter Can Make a Big Difference

We’re tracking their stories to learn about the unique issues each participating community faces. And, we’re inviting the reporters to blog about their experiences to learn more about the impact their stories are having. With partner newspapers and reporters in all four corners of the state, Write for Arkansas is statewide news, done local.
