Aspire Health

Resources for Childhood Obesity

ARCF's  Aspire Arkansas report includes info from the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement that paints the picture of how Arkansas's counties are faring in the area of childhood obesity (and other quality of life issues).

Did you know that:
  • In some Arkansas Counties, almost 50 percent of students are overweight or obese.
  • Statewide, our childhood obesity rate is 38 percent.
  • Figures fluctuate from year to year, but over the past 6 school years, the number has remained between 37 and 40 percent.

Transportation

No, it's not one of our Aspirations for Arkansas's Communities, but transportation has a huge impact on each aspiration.
  • Families: 43% of households spend more than 28% of their incomes on transportation.*
  • Economics: Most of the dollars spent on fuel leave the local economy. When people are able to save on fuel costs, they can to spend more locally.*
  • Economics: "Walkable" developments are now valued at 30 to 50 percent more than auto-oriented developments in many urban and suburban settings.*
