$60,380 in Grants Awarded from Delta Endowment

LITTLE ROCK, ARK – Arkansas Community Foundation recently announced a total of $60,380 in grants to six organizations serving the Arkansas Delta region. These grants were awarded from the Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building Community, established at the Foundation in 2009 to provide a source of funding for innovative, community-based projects that will improve social and economic conditions for children and families in 26 Delta counties in Arkansas.

“This grant program gives us the opportunity to support projects that stand to have an ongoing impact rather than just a one-time benefit,” said Heather Larkin, President and CEO of Arkansas Community Foundation.  “This year’s grant recipients will use Delta Endowment funds to build new partnerships in underserved communities and establish new services that address hunger and poverty in the Delta.”

Organizations receiving funding are:

  • Precious Hearts Student Center based in Pine Bluff, for a program to teach life skills to low-income women and single mothers.
  • Main Street Helena, for an EBT payment system for the Downtown Helena Farmers Market to enable WIC and SNAP recipients to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmers market.
  • Lee County Family Resource Center based in Marianna, to implement action steps from the Lee County Revitalization Plan, including creating more recreational opportunities for children in rural communities, establishing a Reading Buddies Literacy Program and implementing a communications plan for the revitalization effort.
  • Boys & Girls Club of Cross County based in Wynne, to enhance the youth technology center and after-school technology program.
  • Family Community Development Corporation based in Pine Bluff, to establish a community garden that would engage teens, the UAPB campus community and residents of the University Park neighborhood and foster greater collaboration among these groups.
  • The Family Center, Inc., based in Helena, to support the newly formed Foodbank of the Delta, including funding for food purchases and to establish a vegetable garden and plant fruit trees.

The Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building Community was established through a gift from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Arkansas Community Foundation will make grants from the endowment annually. Visit arcf.org to learn more about Foundation grants.
