Our Finances and Governance
Investing in Arkansas’s Future
Arkansas Community Foundation is here for the long term. We were founded in 1976 with an initial investment of $258,000 from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. Today, we manage assets of more than $150 million.
Through smart investing and the contributions of individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations, we’ll continue to grow and provide an ongoing source of funding for the charitable causes that matter to Arkansans.
Our Assets and Grants, 2011 Fiscal Year
By the end of fiscal year 2011, total assets reached $150.1 million, a record high for ARCF. The $28 million increase in total assets was due in part to marked improvements in investment markets. Another contributing factor was $16.1 million in gifts received during the year. Grantmaking remained steady at $8.7 million, only slightly less than the $8.9 million in grants awarded in FY2010.
Pooled investments returned 20.6 percent, ahead of ARCF's composite index. The asset allocation at June 30, 2011 was comprised of 50 percent to equities, 26.3 percent to fixed income, 19.3 percent to alternate investments and 4.4 percent to cash equivalents.
