Stewarding 83 Million Acre-Feet of Water

Arkansas is blessed with abundant water resources. In fact, an estimated 83 million acre-feet of water falls on or passes through our state each year, according to Arkansas Natural Resource Commission (ANRC). A law passed in the state legislature in 2011 provides clear guidelines to
update the state water use plan to ensure that water is managed effectively among agricultural interests, local industries and municipalities, while maintaining healthy rivers for recreation and fishing.

The update of the state water plan is being led by ANRC, with close support from other agencies and organizations. ARCF made a grant to The Nature Conservancy to help support its work to engage citizens in the planning process and gather feedback from a broad range of voices.
