After a 20 year break, single father Darren Amundson is back in school to earn an associate’s degree in general technology that will help him move into a management position and set an example for his children, Dalton, 14, and Trinity, 9. With support from the Billy Wayne and Wanda Emde Single Parent Scholarship, Darren has financial support to help keep his household running while he focuses on education.
This year, in White County alone, the Community Foundation welcomed three new endowments benefitting the White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Wanda Emde heard about the need for scholarships for single parents at a Lions Club meeting and decided on the spot to establish an endowment in memory of her late husband. “I know Bill would be proud to see a young man try to better himself,” she said.
