28 Grants to Furry and Feathered Friends

Those cuddly puppies at the local animal shelter and the sharp-dressed penguins at the Little Rock Zoo have benefactors in common – Arkansas Community Foundation donors. In FY 2011 28 grants totaling $105,113 were made to Humane Societies and other shelters, the Penguin Parent Project at the Little Rock Zoo and spay assistance programs throughout the state. In fact, our animal-loving donors have consistently given around one percent of all ARCF grants to animal causes each year.

Compassion for animals and support of their care is a lifetime mission for some Arkansans. Through a legacy gift to ARCF, the late Martha Barber of Little Rock extended her love for animals beyond her lifetime, establishing the Martha Barber Animal Welfare Endowment. This new fund provides a permanent source of support for the animal welfare charities that were near to Mrs. Barber’s heart.
